Boundless Activated Snacks | 3 Ways To Incorporate More Nuts Into Your Diet

Hey there, we’re Boundless Activated Snacking, and we’re here to make snacking well easy!

We make activated snacks that leave you & your gut feeling good- and if there’s one thing you should know about us, it’s that we’re pretty nutty for nuts.

It might seem like there’s a day for everything nowadays (and you’re probs right there), but this National Nut Day we thought we’d do something a little different.

So! Without further ado, here are 3 ways to incorporate nuts into your diet you might not have thought of…

GOT GUTS? LET’S GO NUTS!

One of our fave types of nuts out there is almonds, thanks to how versatile it is!

Not only are almonds total nutritional powerhouses, they’re beyond versatile as well. Here’s the thing – eating nuts daily, just as they come, can feel a *tiiiny* bit boring. Don’t worry, we feel you – that’s we add gutsy blends of herbs & spices to our snack packs to keep snacking exciting.

BUT we can’t ignore those health perks! So, if you’re looking to spice things up at home, why not try a DIY trail mix?

Combine a serving of almonds, some dark chocolate chips, a serving of dried fruit for 1 of your 5 a day and you’re good to do!

In fact, not only are you hitting all the major food groups with this snack, you’re feeding your microbiome too!

That’s right, this 4-ingredient homemade trail mix should hit about 1/3 of your recommended daily fibre intake – essential for maintaining a healthy microbiome – whilst delivering on macronutrients, vitamins and minerals like magnesium and Vitamin E.

Good to you, your gut & your tastebuds!

YOU WALNUT BELIEVE THIS…

Walnuts are pretty unique thanks to their high levels of plant-based omega 3 fatty acids – something more typically found in oily fish – on top of their high levels of protein, fibre and of course their boundless vitamins & minerals (see what we did there...).

Not only this, but consuming walnuts regularly in your diet has been proven to decrease cholesterol, meaning it might just improve your cardiovascular health too.

Right, so you know you need to get your 30gs of walnuts in, but how?

Blitz ‘em! We like to think of crushed or blended walnuts as “breadcrumbs with benefits”.

How about coating your piece of salmon in them for a double dose of omega-3s, rolling cubed tofu in herbs, spices & a walnut crumb for a homemade KF without the C, or adding them to smoothies for a nuttier finish.

You walnut believe your luck when it comes to those health benefits!

LET’S GET ACTIVATED.

This might seem like we’re cheating but hear us out: activated nuts.

A lot of us aren’t keen on nuts because of that bitter taste they can leave in your mouth sometimes – and this is all down to the Phytic Acid that sits inside of them. That’s where activation steps in…

It’s a centuries-old method, used by ancient tribes, as a way of letting down Nature’s defence mechanism to give us access to the good stuff inside a nut.

Thing is, although it won’t harm you, phytic acid binds to minerals such as magnesium / iron / zinc and can hinder their absorption. If we aim to reduce levels of phytic acid, we can aim to increase the availability of the nut’s nutrients. Makes sense, right?

Activation is the metaphorical key to unlocking the door to goodness.

By activating nuts yourself, or choosing to shop activated, you’re fully incorporating nuts into your diet – giving your body access to the great stuff on offer, the stuff you deserve.

We hope this blog post has inspired some of you to pack a few more of these powerhouses into your diet, and Happy National Nut Day from Team Boundless Activated Snacking!
