Snackmasters | James Cadbury @ H!P Oat Milk Chocolate
‘Inspired by my great-great-great Grandfather, John Cadbury, H!P (Happiness in Plants) launched in early 2021, with the aim of reinventing chocolate by replacing dairy with plant-based creamy oat milk.’
James Cadbury
In the 19th century, the Cadbury family revolutionised confectionery by making one of the first milk chocolate bars. Nearly 200 years later, H!P is disrupting the chocolate market by replacing the use of animal products in chocolate with plant-based milk.
H!P chocolate was born out of a desire to eat good quality, creamy vegan chocolate. Hence, at H!P we use the best quality single-origin Colombian cacao and combine this with creamy gluten-free oat milk.
Traditionally, vegan chocolate is naturally dark, whereas H!P uses oat milk to mimic the use of dairy in ‘regular’ milk chocolate bars.
All our bars are wrapped in a home compostable, wood pulp wrapper meaning all our packaging is also plastic free!
H!P blends only the best quality cacao and oat milk to produce deliciously creamy vegan chocolate in contemporary flavours and standout packaging. H!P launched with 4 core flavours, and since then has launched 3 limited edition products, all of which have sold out, and earlier this month, H!P launched a brand new Salted Honeycomb bar. Here at H!P, we care as much about providing ethically-sourced chocolate as we do about ensuring it is a delight for the taste buds!
With this in mind, we source the cocoa that goes into making our delicious bars from a family-owned business in Bogota, Colombia who have grown cocoa for over 100 years. They harvest their own cocoa beans and work alongside other cocoa farmers to create long-term, sustainable relationships. This transparent approach from farm to bar guarantees that every link in the supply chain gains value.
Due to this collaborative mindset, our cocoa supplier has had the resources to invest in local community projects such as helping to build numerous schools within the cocoa farming communities. The positive effects of this can be felt throughout the whole community, as having improved learning conditions is vital to ensure children have access to the education they deserve.
We believe that chocolate can make the world a better place with fair relationships where everybody wins.
Why Oat Milk?
Here at H!P, we wanted to create a vegan chocolate bar that doesn’t compromise on flavour, texture or sustainability; that’s why we chose oat m!lk as the base for our bars!
Oat milk outperforms other plant milks on sustainability, healthiness and importantly taste too. Oat Milk contains no added sugars, whilst high in fibre, protein and vitamins like zinc, vitamin D, and magnesium.
It is allergen-free, soy-free, and gluten-free, therefore we are able to appeal to a broader range of consumers, whilst being one of the most sustainable choices, and adding creaminess to the chocolate without relying on dairy.
Plus, by using oat m!lk in our chocolate bars, H!P ends up using 200 litres less water and ⅓ of the Co2 compared to dairy!
